Painted Violins

by Yo-Yo Ma
This special violin was painted for the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild by Yo-Yo Ma, the world’s most famous and revered cellist. Mr. Ma’s passion for music education comes across loud and clear when this performing artist turns painter. Music staffs with the notes of a well- known, early string Suzuki piece adorn the front of his violin. The Latin words “Dona Nobis Pacem” are hand-painted on the front. Loosely translated and painted on the back of the violin is “Justice and Dignity for All of Us”. Yo-Yo’s signature is boldly and easily painted down the violin’s fingerboard. The lucky winner of this truly one-of-a-kind will also receive an autographed recording of Mr. Ma’s award winning music.

by Nall
Alabama native, Nall studied many years under his mentor, Salvadore Dali. His violin is beautifully embellished with leather and egg shell, and has perfectly cut baggett mirrored tiles circumventing the sides. Piano hammers artfully replace the violin’s tuning pins. This violin’s artistic creativity stands alone on its three authentic turkey legs. Nall has created a true musically representative work of art!

by Maestro Carlos Prieto
In line with his lively personality, Carlos Miguel Prieto’s painted violin is vibrantly colored and exudes his high level of energy. Rumor has it that Maestro Prieto ruined two pairs of dress slacks as well as the wallpaper and carpet in his HSO office while spending hours painting his visual masterpiece! The bright colors adorning the front of Carlos’ violin seem to be in movement as the reverse side leans to a more reserved separation of palette. His signature is artfully and prominently placed along the side of this beautiful piece of art.

by Alan Lee Davis
Painted in keeping with the dreamlike characters that he is so well known for, Alan Lee Davis’s violin seems to come to life. One immediately wants to name this enchanting creature and you will find yourself referring to it as a person, and waiting for it to call you by name. A true joy to view, his violin seems to come to life as your imagination begins to fill in the blanks of its life story. Alan’s signature is prominently placed vertically down the back of his painted violin. This masterpiece is sure to bring you many hours of joy and imaginative conversation.

by Leslie Lockhart
Leslie Lockhart is well known in our community for her representations of angels. True to this popular and well received genre, Leslie’s violin is covered with floating, open winged angels. These angels seem to warmly draw you into this masterpiece. The reverse side of her violin is listed with positive, descriptive attributes that we should all aspire to encompass. In keeping with her humble and reserved style, Leslie’s signature is quietly placed on the front of her special violin.
